Hi there! I’m Cheretta Smith, and I’m excited to share that I’ve been happily calling Berwyn, Illinois, my home for the past seven years. Before moving here, I grew up on the west side of Chicago and attended Lincoln Park High School, where my love for music and the arts really took off!
With over twenty-five years in Early Childhood Education, I’ve been lucky enough to dedicate my career to nurturing young minds at Bright Horizons Early Education & Preschool in Downtown Chicago. Every day, I find joy in supporting children and their families—it truly makes my heart smile!
As the Director at Bright Horizons at South Wabash, where I’ve spent the past 21 years, I’ve enjoyed developing my skills and helping to open this wonderful center. I love working with my team, mentoring peers, and celebrating our accomplishments together. I’m really proud of our success in achieving NAEYC reaccreditations and our ability to keep our amazing, tenured staff on board!
My family and I have also been active members of Lifeline Church in Cicero for the last 13 years. Alongside my wonderful husband, Carlton, I’ve had the joy of leading the church’s Married Life Ministry team for the past 11 years. We’re passionate about helping couples navigate the ups and downs of marriage and helping them unlock their full potential together.
Our son, Caden, is a lively first grader who definitely keeps us on our toes! He’s a Jefferson Elementary Kid and loves to swim, wrestle, and play t-ball. Plus, he’s always excited to share his latest discoveries about dinosaurs and superheroes!
Recently, I’ve been serving on the Berwyn North School Board District 98, and I’m truly dedicated to making a positive impact in our community. I’m passionate about improving children’s lives and amplifying the voices of underrepresented communities like mine. I love getting involved in local events, supporting after-school programs with my family, and connecting with our neighbors—all with the goal of creating a brighter future for our kids. Together, we can make a big difference in our community!

Mi familia y yo también hemos sido miembros activos de la Iglesia Lifeline en Cicero durante los últimos 13 años. Junto a mi maravilloso esposo, Carlton, he tenido el gozo de liderar el equipo del Ministerio de Vida Casada de la iglesia durante los últimos 11 años. Nos apasiona ayudar a las parejas a navegar por los altibajos del matrimonio y ayudarlos a desbloquear todo su potencial juntos.
¡Nuestro hijo, Caden, es un niño de primer grado animado que definitivamente nos mantiene alerta! Es un niño de la escuela primaria Jefferson y le encanta nadar, luchar y jugar al béisbol. Además, ¡siempre está emocionado de compartir sus últimos descubrimientos sobre dinosaurios y superhéroes!
Recientemente, he estado sirviendo en el Distrito 98 de la Junta Escolar de Berwyn North, y estoy realmente dedicado a tener un impacto positivo en nuestra comunidad. Me apasiona mejorar la vida de los niños y amplificar las voces de las comunidades subrepresentadas como la mía.
